Answer: After taking 3 years off to work as a journalist, I am now working again on finishing my dissertation while also working part-time as a translator and at Kokugakuin University in Tokyo.

3. Where did you acquire your most advanced Japanese language training for your research?

Answer: A. I learned it at a university. (University of California, Berkeley)

4. Have you ever participated in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme?

1. Please describe briefly how the Japan Foundation Fellowship experience influenced your career.

Answer: It helped to get me started on my doctoral research (which also led me to realize that I needed to rethink my dissertation topic). I was also able to make contacts with both Japanese scholars and other visiting researchers during my fellowship year that have proved to be helpful.

2. The Japan Foundation is planning to create a network or forum among past Japan Foundation fellows. Please let us know if you have any suggestions in terms of themes, format, etc.
