Answer: Retired, but still researching Japanese music: folk song, cultural policy, oral transmission methods, etc.

Answer: B. I learned it at a special language training school. (The Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies)

1. Please describe briefly how the Japan Foundation Fellowship experience influenced your career.

Answer: Five short-term grants from Japan Foundation (including the UK's Japan Foundation Endowment Committee) helped further my research on folk song, oral transmission, music education, and Okinawan music, as well as supporting acquisition of musical instruments for the teaching of Noh and Kabuki music at SOAS. I have been able to share the benefits of these grants via writings, classroom teaching, public lectures and workshops etc.

2. The Japan Foundation is planning to create a network or forum among past Japan Foundation fellows. Please let us know if you have any suggestions in terms of themes, format, etc.
