Answer: I have just handed over a 450-page book, The Chronicle of Lord Nobunaga, to production at Brill Publishers in Leiden. The book is expected to appear sometime this summer. What am I currently doing? To be precise, I am doing the preliminary work on the book's index.

3. Where did you acquire your most advanced Japanese language training for your research?

Optional Inquiry:
1. Please describe briefly how the Japan Foundation Fellowship experience influenced your career.

Answer: It influenced my career tremendously. I did my first serious research on Oda Nobunaga under a Japan Foundation Fellowship. I published a prize-winning book, Warlords, Artists, & Commoners (co-edited with Bardwell Smith), as a result of the research I did under that fellowship. I published a number of essays on kanazooshi and Kirishitan literature as a result of my second tenure as a Japan Foundation Fellow.

2. The Japan Foundation is planning to create a network or forum among past Japan Foundation fellows. Please let us know if you have any suggestions in terms of themes, format, etc.
