Answer: From January through June of 2011, I will be teaching courses on Japanese religions at Stanford University.

1. Please describe briefly how the Japan Foundation Fellowship experience influenced your career.

Answer: I received a doctoral research fellowship that supported a year of research at Ryukoku University in Kyoto. This year not only enabled me to conduct my dissertation research but also in inspired my interest in Buddhist statues, which led to my first book (Living Buddhist Statues in Early Medieval and Modern Japan).

2. The Japan Foundation is planning to create a network or forum among past Japan Foundation fellows. Please let us know if you have any suggestions in terms of themes, format, etc.

Answer: I would be interested in a network for fellows who love Kyoto!
