Answer: C. Yes, I am engaged in Japanese Studies personally, but not at an institution or organization.

2. Please describe what you are currently doing. (If you have your own website or any relevant site, provide its URL.)

Answer: I am working on many projects. I have two exhibitions running currently in Tokyo, at Taka Ishii Gallery and Kurenboh Gallery, and will have a major exhibition in 2011 at the Kokuritsu Kindai Bijutsukan in Tokyo. I am also editing a new book of photographs by Shomei Tomatsu (I was Guest Curator of Tomatsu's acclaimed retrospective at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and other locations in 2004-7). And I am photographing continually in Tokyo.

3. Where did you acquire your most advanced Japanese language training for your research?

Answer: D.Other (Learned as a child in Tokyo)

4. Have you ever participated in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme?

Answer: NO

Answer: Japan Foundation provided me with a fellowship essential to my work on the SFMOMA project mentioned above.
