Answer: C. Yes, I am engaged in Japanese Studies personally, but not at an institution or organization.

2. Please describe what you are currently doing. (If you have your own website or any relevant site, provide its URL.)

Answer: Retired, but still in personal contact with past faculty friends at International Christian University in Tokyo (ICU), and at the University of California. I served as a Board Member of the Japan International Christian University Foundation in New York from 2000 to 2010.

3. Where did you acquire your most advanced Japanese language training for your research?

Answer: B. I learned it at a special language training school. (U.S. Navy School of Oriental Languages, Boulder, CO + Stillwater, OK (1945-46))

4. Have you ever participated in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme?

Answer: NO

Optional Inquiry:
1. Please describe briefly how the Japan Foundation Fellowship experience influenced your career.

Answer: It enabled me to gain a much broader understanding of Japanese higher education, particularly in respect to its internationalization, and helped to prepare me for my four years (1986-1990) as the first Dean of International Affairs at ICU and special assistant to the President of that University for International Affairs.

2. The Japan Foundation is planning to create a network or forum among past Japan Foundation fellows. Please let us know if you have any suggestions in terms of themes, format, etc.

Answer: Establish a "Japan Foundation Fellows" website on which part, present and future fellows could exchange ideas + questions each other about their research and work.
