The Japan Foundation New York Office (JFNY) accepts applications from institutions of higher education for the JFNY Grant throughout the year. This grant aims to support projects that will enhance further understanding of Japan through academic exploration (there is a separate JFNY grant for Arts and Culture). Such projects generally take the form of conferences, colloquia, symposia, presentations, lectures, etc. Successful candidates may be granted up to $2,000, or up to $5,000 for projects conducted in the 14 Southern and 12 Midwestern states. Priority will be given to those projects that have secured additional funding from sources other than the Japan Foundation.

Grants will be made to U.S.-based higher educational institutions. |

The purpose of the applicant's project must be to further an understanding of Japan through academic means. This often takes the form of colloquia, symposia, or conferences, although other types of projects are equally welcome. |

Applicants who have already received funding from other Japan Foundation grants for the same project cannot apply. |
 |
Organizations which have already received the JFNY Grant in the last fiscal year (from April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2006) cannot apply. |

Japanese language education programs are excluded. Please contact the Japan Foundation Los Angeles Office for Japanese language education programs. |
 |
Martial arts, medical, technical, or scientific projects are excluded. |
 |
Political activities, religious activities, social welfare activities, and commercial activities are not considered. |

Rental fees for venues and equipment |

Travel expenses, including per diem and accommodation expenses for lecturers |

Printing costs of program, leaflets, catalog |

Honoraria for lectures (there is a $500 per person upper limit) |
Please note that applicant should cover the cost for reception, if applicable.
The grant will be paid in the form of reimbursement for the preceding expenses.
The award money will be remitted upon receipt of the final report and proof of payments. |
