This program provides financial support to publishers for the publication of books in languages other than Japanese that promote Japanese studies abroad in the fields of the humanities, social sciences, and the arts.
Assistance is in the form of subsidies for production costs only (printing and binding). Support is normally limited to a maximum of one-quarter of these costs, provided that the estimates thereof are approved by the Foundation. Special consideration may be given to applicants from nonprofit organizations and applicants who intend to publish
academic works. In such cases, the maximum subsidy may be extended to one half of the printing and binding costs. The amount of the subsidy will not exceed a total amount of ¥1,000,000.
Only publishers (organizations) are eligible to apply for this program. Applications from authors, translators, or other individuals will not be accepted. Works in the natural sciences are not eligible. Publications must be completed between April 1, 2008 and February 28, 2009.

This program provides financial support to publishers for the translation of Japanese works of high quality that promote Japanese studies abroad in the fields of the humanities, social sciences, and the arts.
Support from this program will normally cover only a portion of the translator’s fee. The amount of subsidy can reach a maximum of ¥1,000,000. The Foundation will cover up to 40% of the translator's fees for general works and up to 60% for academic works or for the translation of works included in the “List of Recommended Works.”
Translators are encouraged to select works from the “List of Recommended Works” as compiled by the Foundation.
Only publishers (organizations) are eligible to apply for this program. Applications from authors, translators, or other individuals will not be accepted. Translations must be completed by February 28, 2009.
