The Yale University Art Gallery held its one-day symposium on Japanese tea culture on Friday April 17, 2009 in conjunction with the special exhibition Tea Culture of Japan: Chanoyu Past and Present.

Eight highly esteemed specialists of tea culture, including scholars, practitioners, curators and collectors provided the audience with lectures and demonstrations, highlighted by their own unique experience of tea.
Over 350 people registered for the symposium and the discussion drew participants from all over the country, as well as from Japan.

This major event, bringing together such a varied group of tea specialists revealed the global transformation of tea culture and the expansive nature of its aesthetic.
