Japan Foundation organized a roundtable for the 2011 AAS Annual Conference with invited panelists from four Asian countries to present and discuss the current situation of Japanese Studies in each country.

Public Forum: Voices from the Ground - Civil Society Reports from Japan

On the evening of July 21, 2011 the Japan Foundation New York in partnership with the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) and Asia Society hosted a public forum where select figures from the Japanese Civil Society reported on the current state of the affected regions in Japan, as well as what has been done and what will be done. The forum answered such questions as: What is the current status of the Japanese disaster areas? What are the needs for mid and long-term reconstruction? How is Japan°«s civil society collaborating with the international community in the recovery process?

Funding Meeting: US-Japan Cooperation on Supporting the Japan Disaster Response

On July 21, 2011 the Japan Foundation New York (JFNY) in Partnership with the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) and the Institue of International Education (IIE) hosted the first overseas delegation of civil society leaders who are working to coordinate Japan°«s response who traveled to New York City for a roundtable that convened key US Funders in an effort to exchange information and explore what can be done to improve coordination and cooperation in channeling resources to the areas of greatest need.

North Korea continues to pose security and diplomatic challenges, affecting Northeast Asia most of all. For the United States and Japan, managing differences over appropriate policy toward Pyongyang has been one of the diplomatic challenges between the two countries. As the Six-Party Talks participants continue to work toward resuming the Talks, forging and maintaining a coherent approach toward North Korea will be important for both Washington and Tokyo. North Korea: A Challenge for the US-Japan Alliance seeks to examine the challenges North Korea creates for US-Japan relations, particularly its alliance realtionship, from US, Japanese, and other regional perspectives.

2010 Japan Foundation Annual International Furoshiki Design Contest Winners

Congratulations to all of the winners and thanks to all of the participants of the 2010 Japan Foundation Annual International Furoshiki Design Contest! Art and design school students designed their own original Furoshiki, or wrapping cloths, that portray a fusion of Japan and their represented country.
