Application for Performing Arts Japan (PAJ) touring and collaboratrion grants for the 2019 – 2020 fiscal year is now closed.

|Coverage||Includes travel costs, performance fee for performers and other costs. Grants are made on a cost-sharing basis. PAJ will not fund more than 50% of the project costs, nor will it fund the overhead or administrative costs of the applicant organization.|
This program is designed to provide financial assistance to non-profit organizations in the U.S. and Canada that aim to introduce Japanese performing arts to local audiences. PAJ Touring Grants help present Japanese performing arts at multiple locations in the U.S. and Canada, with an emphasis on locations outside major metropolitan areas. PAJ Collaboration Grants help Japanese and American/Canadian artists develop a new work, which will further an appreciation of Japanese culture when presented to American/Canadian audiences. The grants are made to non-profit organizations in the U.S. and Canada only. The Japan Foundation PAJ Advisory Committee will review applications in December 2018. Based on the recommendations of the Committee, the final selection of awardees is made by the Foundation’s Headquarter in Tokyo. Written notification of awards will be mailed in April 2019.
To date, PAJ has funded 294 projects (including 145 touring, 139 collaborative, and 10 special projects) of Japanese performing arts in both traditional and contemporary art forms. In the “2018-2019” fiscal year, 11 projects (7 touring and 4 collaborative) are to be funded under the program, for a total amount of USD 200,000 (please see the List of Awardees). PAJ is advised by an annually appointed panel composed of performing arts specialists from throughout North America.
